The latest Riverdale Season 4 trailer reveals the darkest corners of senior year in the upcoming season, and we have so many questions.

The Riverdale gang has finally made it to their senior year. But instead of yearbooks and prom outfits, it looks like a missing person case and a possible murder will be the center of attention. The latest Riverdale Season 4 trailer featured on E! offers a few clips of what’s in store when the season returns next month, and it looks grim.

The only upside is that there isn’t any indication that a serial killer will be to blame for this season’s trouble. A surprising turn of events since Riverdale is like a fly trap for serial killers. That doesn’t mean that we won’t find out later that a new killer has targeted the town or the teenagers.

Never forget that Penelope Blossom is a fugitive on the loose that can easily be lurking behind the scenes. Then there’s The Farm that disappeared after Betty discovered that they were organ harvesting innocent people in their cult. Edgar Evernever and his followers are also still out there.

Sadly, Riverdale‘s trailer doesn’t divulge much in terms of who is causing the problems this time. However, it did present us with what’s going to happen, and that alone stirs up questions.

 1. Where’s Jughead?

We first got the feeling that something was going to happen with Jughead during Riverdale‘s Season 3 finale. The season ended with a preview of senior year that included Veronica, Archie, and Betty covered in blood and burning Jughead’s beanie. The scene suggested that the friends had killed Jughead and were planning to bury their involvement.

The trailer starts with a search team of townsfolk, headed by Jughead’s Sheriff Dad, in the woods looking for Jughead. Betty is right there with them looking for her boyfriend. But is her involvement in the search just for show because she had something to do with his disappearance?  I really can’t see Jughead’s friends harming him and really think that the Riverdale creators are gaslighting fans. But if Jughead is missing, the real mystery is who kidnapped him.

2. Is Jughead buried in a coffin?

Even more startling is that later in the trailer, Jughead seems to be inside of a coffin trying to get out. I also can’t see Jughead’s friends sticking him in a coffin. He would have to be foaming at the mouth for them to try something like that, and even then it would be to get him to some medical help. But what we will have to wait and see is if Jughead is in a coffin in a place or if he’s been buried underground.

More from CW

Jughead clearly didn’t end up inside of a coffin for fun, especially when he ends up trying to kick the thing open and can’t.  Someone had to put Jughead in the coffin, and if he’s buried in the ground, that person would be an enemy looking to kill him. Could it be another serial killer, perhaps? Or is it someone who has a bone to pick with Jughead?

3. Who hits Betty in the head?

At one point, Betty finds herself in front of a school bus at night, staring frightfully at someone not seen on camera. From behind, another person hits Betty in the head with a bat, and she collapses on the floor. The previous scene gives us a glimpse of the culprit, which is someone with mid-length hair and a cap twirling around a bat near the bus in the shadows.

Does Betty get knocked out in her search for Jughead, or is she on another investigation? No matter the reasons why Betty is out at night speaking with someone who decides it would be better to knock her out, it’s obvious she’s dealing with someone shady. And by the looks of it, the bat wielder is female.

4. What crime was committed?

Some quick black and white images of rooms covered in crime tape indicate that there was a crime committed. What could possibly have happened that would have warranted that level of police involvement?

While the possibilities are endless, I can’t forget the image of Veronica, Archie, and Betty covered in blood last season. Based on the clues, I would say that the crime in question is a murder. Could these photos be a part of where the crew got covered in blood? Or has Jughead’s disappearance converted his home into an official crime scene?

5. Whose car does Archie vandalize?

In a quick flash of the trailer, Archie is seen taking a bat to someone’s car and smashing the front window to bits. The previous scenes show Archie standing up for himself and asking someone who they think they are. Will this season mean that Archie has a new enemy?

Archie always has at least one enemy that wants to rough him up or take him out completely. And age has never been an issue since Hiriam Lodge never had a problem with seeing Archie as an opponent. But could this be a new adversary for Archie or is this a part of Jughead’s ongoing disappearance?
