Whether she’s sporting fangs as a vampire or being hilarious in an action film, Nina Dobrev has proven she’s here to stay, and we’re happy about that.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria and dubbed Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva, the woman we now know as Nina Dobrev immigrated to Canada at a young age. Before she got her big break on the silver screen, Dobrev did some modeling and even attending college at Ryerson University.

Ultimately, she left early to pursue her acting dreams. Nina Dobrev’s first big break came with the role of Mia Jones, the teen mom, on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Before that, she starred in a couple of movies like Away From Her and even some Lifetime films.

Despite her role in the incredibly popular Degrassi, Nina Dobrev didn’t truly become mainstream until she landed the role of Elena Gilbert in the little pilot known as The Vampire Diaries in 2009. It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come since the show premiered and recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Dobrev pulled quadruple duty in the franchise playing Elena, Katherine, Amara, and eventually even Tatia on the Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals.

Since then, Dobrev has steadily made a move towards comedy with her short-lived CBS sitcom FAM and films like Dog Days and Crash Pad. Next, she’ll star, and executive produce an indie comedy film called Sick Girl.

In the meantime, let’s take a look back at Dobrev’s most notable performances (so far)!
