20. God Friended Me

When it returns: This Sunday night series returns on Sept. 29 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.

Season it’s on: The feel-good series premieres its second season when it returns next week.

Why watch it: This was one of the best new fall TV shows of last year. That’s the reason right now to make this show so worthwhile. But there’s more to that.

From the title, it seems like it’s all about religion, but it’s more about faith—faith in yourself and the unknown. The lead character doesn’t believe in God, but he follows the friend suggestions. He takes the time to find out more about the people he needs to help and figures out what he can do for them.

19. The Goldbergs

When it returns: The comedy returns on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c on ABC.

Season it’s on: ABC kicks off its Wednesday comedy block this fall TV schedule with the seventh season of The Goldbergs.

Why watch it: It was 1980-something, and you just know that you need to find out the next set of escapades for the Goldberg family. This is just one of those shows with plenty of heart, as it touches on family and love, as well as all the comedy.

Since Erica and Barry are getting closer to college age, Beverly decides it’s time for one last family vacation. She wants to head off to Disneyland. You know how that’s going to go, right?
