2. Die Hard

Original Release Date: July 15, 1988

Box Office Earnings: The action classic was a solid box office success, earning approximately $140 million off a $28 million budget. Good thing too! If this movie flopped, who knew what action films would look like nowadays.

Critical Acclaim: The film currently has a rating of 1000000% on Rotten Tomatoes. What? What do you mean that’s not possible? Fiiiiine. The movie currently has 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a great score, but 7% too little in our book!

About the Role: Bruce Willis’s breakout performance after starring as the romantic lead of TV’s Moonlighting. This was the movie that proved Bruce Willis had the chops to be a bonafide action star. In the film, Willis stars as John McClane, an NYPD detective who finds himself in the worst possible situation. We would explain it but come on. You’ve definitely seen Die Hard right?

Simply the Best: Where to even begin? Die Hard is one of the most pivotal action films of the 1980s. It’s spawned countless imitators but none of them can ever match up to the brilliance of that original film. And it’s also the best Christmas movie of all time, just saying.
