black-ish is back and we had to run down the five funniest moments from last night’s episode. Did your favorite make the cut?

black-ish returned last night with a perfect transition from the premiere of its new spinoff, mixed-ish. They wasted no time catching us up on what had been happening over the summer, but tonight’s episode was all about Pops.

Pops announced that he was getting engaged, and everyone in the family is skeptical. They were convinced it had to be a scam or some young girl who none of them would have to take seriously and spent the first part of the episode speculating. However, when Lynette, played by Loretta Devine (Crash, Grey’s Anatomy), shows up they find out he’s dating a judge.

Dre remains skeptical though the rest of the family quickly accepts that Pops may have changed. It takes the full episode for Pops to convince Dre that this is real.

Besides this storyline, we also caught up with Junior who we last saw heading out on tour with the Migos. He’s come back and spends the entire episode on the phone with rappers or talking about his adventures. He’s trying way too hard and Diane figures out he’s not being truthful about how things went.

But you came here for the funny moments, right?

5. Dre, there’s an Earthquake

At the start of the episode where they’re recapping the summer, they hit on the large earthquake that hit Los Angeles this year. While Bow panics and screams that she’ll get the kids, Dre comes out of the closet screaming for another reason.

"We got Kawhi! And Paul George! I’ll grab the celebration champagne!"

While his wife is afraid for her life, Dre is too busy reading about the big free agency moves that instantly made the Clippers a title contender. The addition of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to the team was big news but not enough that you wouldn’t even realize you were in a Magnitude 7 earthquake!

Extra points for real-world relevance on this one.

4. Pops is different

The story of this episode is that Pops was different. When he announces that he’s getting married a lot of jokes are made but he doesn’t really react to them. Later, when Pops is actually introducing Lynette, things get really weird though.

When Lynette comes in, she immediately goes to huge Dre. Dre hugs her and then Pops comes over and joins the hug. He kisses a stunned Dre and says: “I’m so blessed!” To which Dre responds internally with:

"“He hasn’t kissed me since Motown 85.”"

Followed by a line with a word that had to be censored. That’s how serious this was. The moment was great because of how out of character it was.

3. Ruby reacts

When Ruby first meets Lynette she is surprisingly friendly, even offering to pour her a drink. This catches everyone off guard but then you accept it. She later makes a statement about Pops getting a knockoff of her (she clearly thinks very highly of herself) which further explains why she’s ok with it.

However, later she overhears Pops say that he’s the happiest he’s ever been and it all comes down to the love of a good woman. Ruby is initially smiling in the background but suddenly becomes the focus as her expression changes completely and she says:

"“A good woman?!? Oh hell no.”"

Then leaves the room. We don’t get a ton from Ruby here but we at least got to see her react appropriately once she realized that Pops actually thinks Lynette is an improvement and not more of the same.

2. Diane and the garage

After Junior proves to Diane that her witty comebacks don’t affect him anymore, she is determined to break him. She initially asks Jack to go get her kit, and later is on her way to the kitchen when she hears that Lynette is a judge. She scurries off and when she returns says to make sure Lynette doesn’t go in the garage.

Time passes in the episode and, near the end, someone mentions heading out and Diane screams urgently:

"“STAY OUT OF THE GARAGE!”"

Before realizing what she just did and chuckling uncomfortably and saying “It’s a mess in there.” The initial scream startles everyone in the house.

So what was in the garage??? We may never know.

1. Pops’ bachelor party

At the very end of the episode, Dre finally comes around to the idea of Pops getting married and they have a heart-to-heart about Dre feeling like he didn’t get him at his best. They come to an understanding about Pops not having great examples coming up and things seem settled.

Pops then brings up the bachelor party, he’s made Dre his best man, and Dre starts asking if they should do the strip club, then race track or vice versa. That’s when Pops replies:

"“Oh, you wanted to come? Let me run it by my man Loose Craig.”"

Leaving Dre stunned and leaving the area. We knew Pops had to get Dre at least once before the episode ended.
