Single Parents Season 2 premiere: 5 funniest moments
Single Parents is back for Season 2 and kicked things off with a kid-free episode. Here are the 5 best moments from the parents Summer of Freedom!
Single Parents survived a treacherous time for new shows and secured a second season. The show needed a strong start in season two and I think they accomplished that last night. One thing that they had going for them was that it was essentially a kid-free episode, so we’ll see how the screen-time for the kids breaks down next week.
With that said there were many hilarious moments last night so lets run them down.
5. Douglas, Poppy is a modern woman
When we left off last season, Douglas and Poppy had a budding relationship but hadn’t gone on an official date yet. At the start of the episode, Angie is hosting a party at her house and Miggy asks Douglas why he hasn’t asked her out yet. He seems nervous about it and Miggy points out that she’s a modern woman.

Just then Poppy walks up and asks him out and he freezes. He starts rambling and she asks:
"“Are you short circuiting or is it because you’re being asked out by a woman and it’s too much for your traditional brain to take?”"
He quickly recovers and accepts, but in the moment it was a tough scene.
4. Hang in there, Will
After bonding on their road trip and meeting Graham’s father, Will and Angie have planned a summer of fun. On their list is going to a wine tasting but as they’re leaving, Will encourages Angie to send an email to Derek (the ex) and then meet him there.
Later, we see him alone at the wine tasting and a worker walks over and tells him that people are complaining that he looks lonely. Will tells the kid that his friend is coming and the kid responds:
"“That’s the spirit sir.”"
It was the kids sympathetic expression that makes the moment, because Will did look incredibly sad sitting there with an empty glass across from him. Angie got way too into her email and never showed up.
3. Meet Gus
At Angie’s party we meet Gus, her exterminator who she invited to the event. Now, we’re at Will’s party a month later and Poppy is with Gus (things didn’t go well on the date with Douglas.) Poppy introduces him and he shakes Will’s hand before telling him:
"“You have a serious silverfish situation.”"
It definitely ruins the moment for Will, but I guess the guy knows his pests.
2. Miggy wants to fix Poppy and Douglas
Also at Will’s party, Miggy approaches Poppy to ask what’s going on with her and Douglas. She explains that their date was going great until she touched his hand and he got up and left. Miggy says that he now has to murder Douglas before telling Poppy that she is a queen, an icon, and a survivor. When a guy looks at her he throws stuff at him and chases him off.
Later, he confronts Douglas as if he’s going to fight him. That’s when Douglas tells Miggy that he had a heart attack when Poppy touched him and he tried to leave as calmly as possible because he didn’t want her to see him as a weak old man. Miggy then apologizes before calling Douglas a king, an icon, and a survivor. He’s basically taken these two on as parents.
1. Oh yeah, the kids
After a full episode without the kids it was easy to forget them as a viewer. Besides baby Jack, the other kids were only really mentioned at the beginning of the episode when we were told why they weren’t there.
At the very end of the episode the adults are sitting around Douglas’ pool reflecting on their Summer of freedom. That’s when suddenly the gate opens and the kids start yelling at them. They had to walk home from the bus station because no one was there to pick them up. We’re reminded that in a lot of situations the kids are the adults in this show and we’ll no doubt see this dynamic return next week.
Single Parents will be back next Wednesday at 9:30/8:30 Central on ABC.
