Ahead of The Good Place Season 4 premiere, see what D’Arcy Carden and Ted Danson said about their favorite series plot twists for Janet and Michael.

The Good Place Season 4 is back and fans are excited (and likely anxious) to return to their favorite Bad Place neighborhood. Earlier this summer, we caught up with two of the series’ stars, Ted Danson and D’Arcy Carden, to learn more about the comedy series’ final season. While they couldn’t say anything about what we might see in The Good Place Season 4, Carden and Danson did give us some insight into playing Janet and Michael, and what we’ll likely continue to see more of in the final episodes.

Carden shared what her favorite storyline twist has been while playing Janet, the neighborhood’s informational assistant who’s turned into so much more over the course of the series. “I have this lucky weird thing with this character where I get to be rebooted, and I get to evolve. And, you know, that’s a very fun thing to play with,” Carden said.

“I’ve never sort of lived with a character for this long, for four years, and it has not been boring for one second. She’s constantly sort of changing, and it’s been a fun fine line to find the… roundedness and the fun… Oh, what fun!”

For Ted Danson, who plays The Bad Place demon and Architect, Michael, the best twists in the series have been in relation to Michael’s character development and motivations. “[Janet and Michael] have similar things, where [D’Arcy] gets to play good Janet, bad Janet, all these different Janets, and I got to be a demon trying to torture people,” Danson said.

“And I’m now falling in love with them, wanting to be like them. We get to have this amazing arc, which is really kind of fun… We get to be incredibly silly in the most serious ways.”

“It feels like [the writers] are just trying to give us these little fun gifts,” Carden added.

Watch a sneak peek from The Good Place Season 4 premiere (did someone say Disco Janet?) where Eleanor, Michael, and Janet help welcome a new resident to the neighborhood.
