British stand-up star Mo Gilligan is known for his “smooth and sparkling” humor and casually hysterical demeanor on the stage. Globally released in 190 countriesMo Gilligan: Momentum is now streaming on Netflix and is the star’s official debut into comedy.

Beginning as an online gimmick streamer, Gilligan’s popularity has grown almost overnight. Gilligan may now have a stand up reach of millions, but before that he was working in retail and publishing his jokes on social media. That is, until he was discovered and co-signed by Canadian rapper Drake.

In 2018, Gilligan and sold out 22 nights at Leicester Square theatre for his show “Coupla Cans,” and in 2019 Gilligan was given a BAFTA nomination for his recording of The Big Narstie Show Series 2 and his Channel 4 series, The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan, which became a “Number 1 Trend” on Twitter that year. He was also nominated for the Royal Television Society award for Best Breakthrough.

Gilligan has also appeared on The Chris Ramsay Show, Live at The Apollo on BBC Two, Live from the Comedy Store, The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One) and Rob Delaney’s Stand Up Central on Comedy Central. That same year, Gilligan’s “Lateish” show won him the Royal Television Society award for Best Entertainment Show. From zero to the world’s comedic hero, Gilligan now gets his own Netflix special with Mo Gilligan: Momentum.

Now streaming on Netflix, Mo Gilligan: Momentum features the stand up comedian’s riffs about his “humble beginnings, family dynamics and the complex art of dancing in the club.” The feature also includes one of his most prized jokes about gal-pal birthday bashes, passive aggressive group texts and more-than-expensive spa weekend peer pressures. What’s probably most enjoyable about Gilligan’s stand up act is his calm and relaxed vibe, pitching his jokes as if his audience were long-time friends.
