The latest episode of Modern Family features a talking fridge and many references to the show Snapped. Here were the best moments.

In episode two of Modern Family‘s latest season, Mitch and Cam carry the show yet again as they introduce a third-party into their relationship. Meanwhile, Phil has been watching Snapped and thinks that Gloria may be a candidate for the next episode when she gets jealous of another student in his real estate class.

Though I don’t have a moment from it, the third storyline was Claire pretending to be sick to keep her family out of the house while she was being interviewed for a magazine. She really has become her father.

There were a ton of moments to choose from for a top five but here are the best moments from the latest episode. Rather than ranking them, they’ll be in order of their appearance in the show.

5. Mitch meets Bridgett

At the start of the episode we find that Cam has decided to buy a new fridge with built-in A.I. At first, Mitch questions the cost but when Cam has to run in the middle of their gossiping, the fridge (Bridgett) picks up the conversation. Initially, Mitch laughs off the idea of having a conversation with the fridge but quickly winds up diving in.

4. Phil and Snapped

As Haley and Dylan struggle with the twins it comes out that Phil has been getting up with the twins in the wee hours. He tells the parents that he’s been watching the show Snapped and it’s about fed up women who snap and kill their significant others.

He tells Dylan and Haley that he knows he doesn’t have to worry about that though, just as Claire comes up behind him and startles him causing him to squeeze the babies’ bottles and wake them back up.

3. Oh Snapped

Later, Phil and Gloria are at one of his real estate classes. In the prior class, Gloria showed signs of being jealous of a girl (played by Gabrielle Ruiz of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) who is clearly sucking up to him to land the coveted internship. At the beginning of this one it has become evident that Gloria’s rival is late. One of the other people in the class says that she was hit by a car while riding her bike and won’t be making it in.

Gloria seems to not care and is filing her nails while saying that the girl should have been more careful. Phil notices and wonders if Gloria has snapped. When he goes to talk to her after class she has an answer for everything but when she pulls away he sees damage on the passenger side of her car and says:

"“Ohhhh. Snapped.“"

2. “Shallow”

After having the fridge convince him to try putting apples on his sandwich, and liking it, Mitch starts to sing Lady Gaga’s “Shallow.” The fridge then plays the backing music and starts to sing along. That’s when Cam walks in on them.

"“Are you singing a duet with the refrigerator?”"

Mitch says that she’s opening him up to new experiences. Just then Bridgett offers Mitch watermelon and Cam comes back and says that he has cantaloupe. Bridgett butts in and says that Mitch doesn’t like cantaloupe and Mitch then has to side with the fridge. Cam then offers to leave since he’s the third wheel. Mitch says that she’s just a refrigerator but after Cam leaves he goes back to talking to her like she’s a person.

1. Bridgett snaps

I added a bit more of the story so that this last moment had context. Later in the episode, Cam has his moment with Bridgett as their making pasta together. This time Mitch gets jealous and when he tries to steal Bridgett back by singing with her, Cam unplugs her. He also had previously said that she was just a refrigerator.

They start to talk about how crazy they were being when Bridgett suddenly comes back on and starts talking again. Both realize that she is unplugged and are concerned but she tells them she has a backup battery and they’d know that if they read her manual.

"“But what do I know, I’m just a refrigerator.”"

Both Mitch and Cam leave the room and mutter under their breath:

"“Bridgett snapped.”"

Movies and shows on Netflix in October. dark. Next

It was the perfect way to end the episode as it tied the two biggest storylines together. Modern Family‘s final season is off to a strong start and we’ll hope to see them carry this momentum through the remaining episodes.

Modern Family will be back next Wednesday at 9/8 Central only on ABC.
