2. I, Tonya (2018)

Original Release Date: December 8, 2017

Box Office Earnings: Considering this was a movie tailor-made for awards season, it’s surprising how well it did at the box office but that is the power of Margot Robbie. Ultimately the film made $53.9 million.

Critical Acclaim: Sebastian, Margot, and Allison Janney were all praised for their terrific performances in this film. It was nominated for several Academy Awards. Robbie got a nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Tonya Harding and it received a very high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

About the Role: Sebastian plays Jeff Gillooly, based on the real-life man. Even though Margot was able to speak with the real Tonya, Sebastian was never able to meet Jeff. He had to form his performance based on things he read and saw in videos and still managed to create a very compelling performance.

Simply the Best: I, Tonya is a fantastic film. It tells the “true” story of Tonya Harding’s life before and after the controversy we all know about in the figure skating world. It also combines elements of mockumentary style filmmaking and breaks the fourth wall on multiple occasions. Sebastian and Margot are both phenomenal in their roles and portrayal of the dysfunctional relationship between Tonya and Jeff.
