Streaming on Hulu in November, Dollface has the potential to become another smash-hit for the streaming service and here’s why.

As far as its original series go, Hulu is extremely underrated in comparison to Netflix, but Dollface could change that. Netflix has a ton of original content while Hulu is just starting out. Thankfully for Hulu, most of its original shows and films are quality. Of course, there’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which is one of the most talked-about shows of 2019, Castle Rock and The Act which have all earned tremendous praise.

One area that Hulu doesn’t get enough credit for is its original comedy series. While they’re definitely being watched, none of the shows are being talked about as much. There are Ramy, Shrill, and pen15 to name a few. However, Hulu is planning to add another comedy to its slate when Dollface joins the service in November.

Of all the comedic shows, Dollface has the potential to be among the ranks of Hulu’s best comedies. Right now, all we have to go off of is a teaser trailer and a synopsis but they give just enough information as to why you should watch. With that being said, let’s get into the reasons why it might become a big hit for Hulu.

More from Hulu

If you watched the trailer from above, then you’ll see some of the reasons why Dollface has the potential to be a huge hit. From the first clip, we find out that Jules gets broken up with by her boyfriend and she’s clearly not anticipating it. I’m sure that most of us can relate to whether it be recent or something that happened many years ago. Almost all of us know the feeling of getting broken up with and feeling blind-sided.

Going hand-in-hand with that is Jules trying to find herself and reconnect with her friends after the breakup. Breakups aren’t easy as the show has illustrated but one thing that helps is leaning on friends. With Jules alienating her friends, the show’s basically her learning how to be a friend and see who she is out of her relationship. This is by no means a new concept for a show, but it’s something that most women can relate to.

Other than the relatable of Dollface, the show has the potential to be a smash-hit because of the humor. Even though the break-up isn’t funny, the way it happens is hilarious. As evidenced by the trailer, the old cat lady is going to be a huge part and every single time she shows up, it’s funny. With “modern problems” such as Jules liking her ex’s new girlfriend’s photo, there’s going to be an endless supply of good break-up related humor, too.

What’s going to cement Dollface most as a hit is the cast. Starting with Kat Dennings as the lead, the show already has a strong comic performer. Add in Shay Mitchell, Brenda Song, and Esther Povitsky as her friends, it’s basically a match made in heaven. With those four headlining the main cast, there is no telling what kind of shenanigans they’ll get into. Not to mention that Margot Robbie is executive producing the show. The show has all the makings of being successful.

Considering how impressive Hulu’s female-led comedies have been in 2019, Dollface has a lot of potentials to be great. The trailer only tells us so much but the show is in the same vein as Someone Great, which was a smash-hit for Netflix. Of all the upcoming Hulu originals, Dollface should be at the top of your list to watch when it comes out.
