Ron Perlman and Doug Jones attended a special Hellboy panel at the Los Angeles Comic Con this year. It wasn’t to announce a third installment, but they did explore what a TV show would’ve looked like.

Even though 2019 had its own version of Hellboy in theaters, the one portrayed by Ron Perlman is still regarded as the best so far. All credit can’t be given to Perlman, seeing as how Guillermo Del Toro produced the masterpiece, but Perlman did deliver on the performance of a lifetime.

In any case, Perlman and Jones had some interesting comments about a possible Hellboy trilogy during their panel at Los Angeles Comic-Con. They never managed to get a third movie, but they say plans were in motion for a B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research And Defense) TV series at one point.

According to Doug Jones, he was pitched a show which would center around Abe Sapian. He’s a central character in the Dark Horse graphic novels so it makes sense that Abe was their prime candidate to star in the B.P.R.D. series. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out and the show was scrapped.

The good news is that a streaming service could acquire the title if there is interest. Very little was said about B.P.R.D. in the headlines, but that doesn’t mean conversations didn’t happen behind closed doors. Of course, any future discussions depend on the studio that considers adapting the B.P.R.D. comics into a TV series.

While Lionsgate Entertainment produced 2019’s Hellboy movie, a TV series based on the property could land anywhere else. The fan who brought up the B.P.R.D. comics to Doug Jones at LACC pointed out that a streaming service could offer a suitable alternative which sounds plausible. In that scenario, it would merely require Mike Mignola’s approval for the show to be made.

As for which streaming service, Netflix or Hulu seem like the two best options at the moment. Both have popular originals in development and one more wouldn’t hurt. That being said, Amazon Prime and NBC Universal’s streamer are just as feasible.
