Since Venom 2 is incorporating multiple characters from the Maximum Carnage comic line, does this mean Spider-Man, Morbius, and Black Cat are set for appearances too?

Earlier this week, news of Shriek joining the cast of Venom 2 got media outlets buzzing. She’s not a particularly well-known Marvel character, but Francis Barrison aka Shriek is important to Cletus Kasady in the comics. Kasady, of course, is the main villain of next year’s sequel.

In the Maximum Carnage storyline, Shriek becomes Kasady’s partner after they escape from the Ravencroft mental institution. They then go on a murderous rampage which includes recruiting fellow criminals like Carrion. From there on, it’s simply one murder after another.

With Shriek’s comic history being noted, her upcoming part in Venom 2 suggests she and Kasady (Woody Harrelson) will escape from San Quentin Prison together. Barrison wasn’t shown alongside Kasady in the Venom post-credits scene but that’s only because an actress has yet to be cast.

Warning! Spoilers ahead.

To quickly recap Venom’s ending, the post-credits sequence briefly introduces audiences to the maniacal villain as he sits in his prison cell. Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) enters to interview him but that’s when the scene cuts to black.

More from Marvel Movies

It’s worth mentioning that the Venom post-credits scene likely set the groundwork for Kasady to become his superhuman counterpart. In the comics, Carnage is actually born when Brock’s symbiote leaves his offspring behind with Kasady. So, fans can see where things are headed based on Venom’s closer.

What’s interesting is the aforementioned scene could also work as a precursor to Shriek’s arrival. Brock didn’t stop at anyone else’s cell, but if the facility comes under fire, Francis Barrison might escape during the hullabaloo. Though the question remains: How will her powers manifest?

Will Carnage’s crew of criminals join him in Venom 2?

In addition to Kasady and Barrison, the duo will probably be joined by the three other supervillains who became part of their team in the comics: Carrion, Demoglobin, and Doppelganger. Of course, one or two may be replaced by characters more suited for the movies. That all depends on what Ruben Fleischer decides.

Assuming Venom 2 does start out with Kasady (Harrelson) forming a criminal syndicate, Eddie Brock will likely recruit allies to combat them. Brock’s symbiote doesn’t have any friends to speak of but perhaps Spider-Man (Tom Holland) could lend a hand. Peter Parker does have a prominent role in the Maximum Carnage comics after all.

If that is the case, fans could also see Morbius (Jared Leto) and Black Cat make their onscreen debuts at the same time. The latter was scheduled for a feature role in Silver And Black but Sony has since canceled the project. Their reasoning for the move is unclear, though it could work out better for Black Cat in the end.

So with that, next year’s Venom sequel could be much larger than initially anticipated. Shriek and Carnage didn’t seem like much at first, but seeing as how Maximum Carnage has a significant influence on the film, Michael Morbius, Spider-Man, and Black Cat could potentially enter the fold. And they stand to make a much bigger impression on audiences.
