8. Parks and Recreation

Who’s in it: Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Paul Schneider, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir, Retta, Billy Eichner

What it’s about: Parks and Recreation follows the exploits and operations of a small government in the fictional and zany town of Pawnee, Indiana. The comedy centers on Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who begins as the Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation department, as she attempts to serve her community and help its residents amid a never-ending torrential downpour of roadblocks, both political and otherwise. Leslie, with the camaraderie of her motley crew, trudges forward to make her political ambitions a reality, not unlike Payton Hobart.

Why you should watch: After watching The Politician, we all need a refreshing laugh. Parks and Recreation, which you’ve probably already watched 10 times over, offers a look into the life of a character whose political aspirations are much less self-serving than Payton Hobart’s. While still just as steadfast in her ambition, Leslie Knope cares more about serving her community and constituents rather than simply winning. Some Politician fans might prefer House of Cards, Veep, or any other political series, but Parks and Rec offers similar themes, but it’s the perfect antidote. Take a trip to Pawnee, Indiana for a light-hearted comedown from the wild world of The Politician.

Where you can watch: Parks and Recreation is currently available to stream on Hulu and Netflix but will become stream exclusively on Peacock beginning in 2020.
