It was only a matter of time before WarnerMedia joined the streaming wars. During its presentation for investors in Burbank, California, WarnerMedia officially unveiled a first-look at HBO Max, the company’s subscription streaming service coming in May 2020.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding who will get the service when it launches, but what is certain is the price, which will start at $14.99 per month. This high price easily makes HBO Max one of the most expensive streaming services on the market.

More importantly, what programs will HBO Max offer? It will range from licensed content, original programming, and HBO’s current library. Here’s everything we know coming to HBO Max.

Licensed content

HBO Max is doing what Netflix did early on, which is to build up a strong library of popular content. In fact, HBO Max will be the new home to household shows like Friends and The West Wing, which used to stream on Netflix. It will also include more than 1,800 movies including DC Comics’ live-action movies of the last decade and every Batman and Superman film from the last 40 years. This means that Joker, one of the biggest hits of 2019, will stream on the service. Below is a list of the highlighted licensed content that will stream on HBO Max.

Original programming

Just like the current streaming services, HBO Max will also create and produce original shows and movies. The service will include projects from Reese Witherspoon, Greg Berlanti, and Ellen DeGeneres. If you were worried about the current HBO library not being available on HBO Max, worry no more. Classic programs like The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City, Deadwood, and Game of Thrones will be available. However, WarnerMedia also teased new projects coming to HBO in the next two years.
