All the spooky updates in Nancy Drew Episode 4, The Haunted Ring
Nancy Drew boasts ghosts and spooky stuff galore, and with Episode 4 behind us, they’ve really raised the stakes on the supernatural.
Nancy Drew established a history of ghost sightings and paranormal phenomena from the very start in the small town of Horseshoe Bay. Lucy Sable, a girl who mysteriously died the night she was crowned Sea Queen, has been making rounds about town ever since her death. Nancy has encountered the ghost on numerous occasions, and solving Lucy’s murder has been tacked on top of the other mysteries on Nancy’s plate.
As of Episode 4, “The Haunted Ring,” the ghost situation has gotten out of control. Lucy may have been the only ghost we knew of trying to make herself relevant, but it seems that the recently deceased Tiffany Hudson is another spirit from the dead about town.
While the best guess would have been that Lucy was communicating, Bess Marvin found out that it was someone different messing with the lighting and banging doors at Drew’s house. Tiffany even managed to haunt Bess at The Claw and scratched up Bess’ legs up real good.

How do we even know it’s Tiffany this time? Well, George brought in her mother, Victoria Fan, who is clairvoyant and has a deep understanding of the spirit world. Momma Fan says that new ghosts are confused and act out because they can’t voice their frustrations.
Bess’ best bet would be to return Tiffany’s ring while using a compact mirror to help Hudson find her body. But George is the one that volunteers to return the ring during Tiffany’s funeral. Seeing that George was sleeping with Tiffany’s husband, she feels it’s her responsibility to right her wrongs.
The problem is that George accidentally took the ghost back with her after returning the ring. In fact, George is possessed by Tiffany who has taken residence in her body. The way things are looking, Tiffany is going to go on a rampage as George. Hopefully, Momma Fan can help with getting the spirit out of her daughter’s body. Either way, the Nancy Drew gang is going to have to solve Tiffany’s murder even if no one else is looking into it.
And since the super fake autopsy ordered by Tiffany’s husband claims that Tiffany died of natural causes, no one is going to care to investigate any further. Obviously, the autopsy was doctored because Nancy took a vile of blood from Tiffany’s corpse, and the injection site is not even listed in the autopsy report. Nancy also went as far as rewatching the footage of the night that Tiffany died and was able to confirm that Bess didn’t steal the ring, so she hasn’t really been lying about her involvement in the murder. Bess is still a kleptomaniac, but in this case, Tiffany dropped her ring while she was standing outside.
Unfortunately, that’s when Lucy pays Nancy a visit by distorting the video and then cracking the laptop screen. I would have been pretty furious with the dead over the damaged tech, but Nancy was more intrigued by the cracked design on the screen. The glass cracks were in the shape of a town location that marked Nancy’s high school when viewed in comparison to a map.
So it seems that Lucy wanted Nancy to investigate something at the school. After a little breaking and entering, Nancy discovers a picture of Lucy and Karen. The image on its own doesn’t mean much. But if you factor in that Karen claimed not to have known Lucy personally when she went to school, it begs the question: Why did Karen lie to Nancy? Lying isn’t enough to determine who the culprit at large is, as we’ve learned, but it makes Karen another suspect in the Lucy Sable investigation.
As for Tiffany’s murder investigation, the Hudson family preparing a fake autopsy and pushing for money puts them at the top of the list of suspicious individuals. This means that Nancy should be looking into Ryan’s background soon for evidence. Maybe she’ll even look into his heartless father. And don’t forget that Tiffany’s toxicology report is still pending with Nancy’s friend. Nancy’s going to have to really dig her heels into some evidence soon if she wants to have a spiritless ever after.
