Riverdale keeps teasing Jughead’s death. However, there are some important clues that may indicate how Jughead will survive.

Last season, Riverdale revealed that Archie, Betty, and Veronica would make a pact never to discuss what happened during spring break of senior year. While covered in blood, they would burn Jughead’s beanie and agree to go their separate ways after high school. Season 4 has added clips to this mystery of the aftermath of these events that suggests that Jughead will go missing. As of late, the clips have included an image of Jughead at the morgue and even one of FP Jones coming to arrest Archie, Betty, and Veronica.

Riverdale wants us to believe that Jughead will die this season and that somehow his closest friends are responsible. But everyone knows that Riverdale can’t kill off Jughead so early in the game considering how important he is to the show. Furthermore, there’s no way his friends killed him no matter the circumstances.

I refuse to believe it, and I’m not alone. Riverdale fans have been investigating the clues, and, thus far, some convincing theories are circulating on how Jughead could end up alive despite there being a dead body at the morgue.

One of the best theories suggests that Jughead will fake his death. The evidence lies in Betty, Archie, and Veronica’s apparent lack of remorse for what they did and lack of empathy for Jughead when FP comes to arrest them. No matter what happened at spring break, could the Archie gang really face Jughead’s death and not feel an inkling of anguish over having lost their best friend? I think not. But if they helped Jughead fake his death, then making it look like Jughead died would be their way of helping a friend.

Another convincing theory comes from Jughead’s history in the Archie Comics. Jughead is supposed to have an identical cousin named Souphead. And as Buzzfeed points out, actor Cole Sprouse is a twin, and that makes this theory even more promising.

Therefore, the “Jughead” at the morgue may be someone else altogether, which all goes back to the theory that Jughead will disappear and eventually fake his death. At least that’s how the story has to play out if Jughead is alive and that body that was discovered is real.

But there’s one clue in the episode “Witness for the Prosecution,” that may support both of these theories and that most viewers may not have factored into Jughead’s fate. Jughead has been offered the opportunity to be the next ghostwriter for the Baxter Brother novels. As we discover, Jughead has been a fan of the Baxter series since his father bought them for him when he was a child. However, FP Jones ended up confessing that the books actually came from Jughead’s grandfather.

So what if Jughead’s disappearance and fake death are all part of an orchestrated plan by Forsythe Jones Sr.? Hear me out. These are the clues that indicate that Forsythe Sr. may get involved in his grandchild’s disappearance. For one, Forsythe did a disappearing act of his own. According to FP, his father went out for a pack of smokes and never came back.

To this day, the family has no idea where Forsythe Sr. lives. The other thing is that Forsythe Sr. attended Stonewall for a short amount of time. In all likelihood, Forsythe Sr. experienced the same type of injustices that Jughead has at the hands of the more privileged kids and left when he couldn’t take it anymore.

Lastly, Forsythe’s message to Jughead in one of the Baxter books suggests that he would probably support Jughead going to Stonewall and that he would want to fight back the privileged losers that have been bullying Jughead.

Forsythe Jones Sr.’s inscription:

"Happy Birthday. Sorry, I’m not there to celebrate it with you. Never let anyone tell you that you don’t belong.Love,GrandpaP.S. Trust few and never let them take anything from you."

So, maybe Forsythe Sr. will help his grandson disappear in light of the way he’s being treated at Stonewall. Jughead could end up hiding out with his grandfather because he’s in trouble but an even better theory is that this murder ruse is all a plan connected to the story Jughead will submit for the Baxter Brothers series. No matter the motives, I would say that there’s a very good chance that Grandpa Jones will have a hand in what happens to Jughead this season.
