2. Clueless (1995)

Original Release Date: July 19, 1995

Box Office Earnings: Clueless‘s box office return is not a strong enough indicator of how popular this movie is to this day. It is one of the hallmark teen comedy films that is still quoted to this day. Cher Horowitz is a film legend among the likes of Elle Woods.

Critical Acclaim: Again, while Clueless did well with critics upon its debut, they couldn’t have predicted its cultural impact and legacy. The film has received several spin-offs and attempted adaptations with another one currently in the works. It also repeatedly ranks on many official lists as one of the best comedies of all time.

About the Role: Clueless was Rudd’s first major film role and his breakout role. He portrayed Cher’s step-brother, Josh Lucas. The two shared a combative and argumentative relationship throughout the movie before eventually realizing their true feelings for one another.

Simply the Best: Prior to getting the role in Clueless, Rudd starred on a television series called Sisters. Ultimately, he left the show to star in Clueless. This wound up being a smart move since his role as Josh helped launch his film career. From there he would go on to star in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Meyers, Romeo + Juliet, and more.

His character in the film is a favorite because of how endearingly snarky he is. Even though Josh and Cher are fighting half the movie, it’s clearly bantering for their eventual relationship and it helps that Rudd and Alicia Silverstone had great chemistry.
