6. Ant-Man (2015)

Original Release Date: July 17, 2015

Box Office Earnings: This is a Marvel movie, you can imagine how much it made based on that factor alone! But overall, it is one of the smaller movies in the franchise. Still, it made more than $500 million at the box office which is not too shabby at all, especially considering Ant-Man is a lesser-known superhero similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Critical Acclaim: Again, we’re in the Marvel/Disney bubble, the critical praise was near-unanimous when the film was released. Paul Rudd’s persistent charm, comedic timing, and charisma helped make this movie a success.

About the Role: If you don’t know who Scott Lang is, he is one of the many members of the Avengers. But this film is all about his origins to becoming a superhero. Lang is a former petty criminal who discovers the suit. We later learn that Lang was manipulated into taking the suit by Hank Pym, the suit’s creator. He wants Scott to become Ant-Man and steal something from his rival.

Simply the Best: Ant-Man contains all the best ingredients from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has a wonderful cast, both with the main hero and the supporting players like Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, and Michael Douglas.

Plus, it plays heavily into the humor of the movie, has some great action sequences (the ending train fight comes to mind), and doesn’t take itself too seriously while seamlessly introducing a new hero into the shared cinematic universe.
