For Bobby, the episode starts on a hunt with the Winchester brothers. It’s soon clear to him that this is all in his mind. However, he needs to remember something and quickly writes down 454895 on a piece of paper.

We’re then taken through a series of memories. After years of wonder about Bobby’s past, this episode delivers some of the answers. We find out that his father was an abusive alcoholic. There’s a chance to see his life with Rufus and the love he had for the Winchesters when they were kids.

Throughout the memories, we also find out about the regrets that Bobby has. One of those is the fight that he and Karen had just days before she was possessed. It was something they could never resolve.

However, he knows that he’s dying. When a man in a suit shows up, he knows that this man in a reaper. Yet, Bobby refuses to crossover. He needs to be there for the Winchesters.

In the real world

Meanwhile, the doctors at the hospital do everything they can to save Bobby. However, the bullet is in his head and it’s almost impossible to remove. The Winchesters can just watch in shock, horror, and fear, hoping that everything will work out.

The Winchesters also have to make a decision. When they learn Bobby is unlikely to survive, they have to decide whether to donate Bobby’s organs. Dean isn’t in the frame of mind to think about that, and even challenges Dick Roman in front of a crowd of people, knowing Dick won’t do anything to preserve the image of the great businessman.

Bobby does wake up for a second. It’s enough to write the numbers on Sam’s palm and whisper “Idjits” before he dies.

Back in Bobby’s memories, he heads to one of Sam and Dean getting ready for a night of beer and DVDs. He’s saved the best memory for last, but the reaper needs to know whether Bobby will crossover or not. We just fade to black, not getting to know the answer.
