Charlie’s Angels has arrived, but not everyone is rushing to watch it. Who, or what, is to blame for the action movie being the latest flop of 2019?

Let’s be honest here, Charlie’s Angels (2019) was never really a “highly anticipated” movie. In fact, when news surfaced about the movie coming soon to theaters, moviegoers commented how they simply weren’t interested. As the movie developed, not many were impressed by the cast, first-look images, or trailers.

Don’t get me wrong, I was actually looking forward to it. And while I wasn’t blown away by the finished product, I do think Charlie’s Angels is a fun movie! It’s a good time, especially when watching with friends, Kristen Stewart is a stand-out and I do recommend watching it if at all interested. However, I do agree with most critics that this movie isn’t nearly as brilliant as the original chapters. It simply doesn’t captivate viewers or feature the same magic.

Did it deserve to flop at the box office, though? Absolutely not. So why did the movie fail its mission? Are men to blame, as Elizabeth Banks believes? Is the empowering message in the movie that much of a turn off? Are there better movies playing in theaters?

Personally, I don’t believe men “not wanting to see women in action movies” (as Banks puts it) are to blame at all. We’ve seen recent action movies rock the box office, such as Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, and, of course, we have to note that the original Charlie’s Angels movies made a decent amount in theaters.

If you ask me, Charlie’s Angels simply failed to attract an audience. Simply put, not every reboot is going to be a success. Take a look at other flops this year: Terminator: Dark Fate, Doctor Sleep, Men in Black: International, Shaft. The audience for these movies just wasn’t there.

There’s also the fact that Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks are the only big stars. Naomi Scott and newcomer Ella Balinska simply don’t have the star power just yet to draw a big crowd. As for there being better movies in theaters, Ford v Ferrari is a pretty big deal with the names Matt Damon, Christian Bale, and Jon Bernthal attached.
