2. The Night Manager (2016)

Original Release: February 21, 2016 – March 27, 2016

Ratings: It did well enough in the ratings that a second season is being considered.

Critical Acclaim: The Night Manager received critical acclaim. Tom Hiddleston was nominated for numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries.

About the Role: Hiddleston plays a former spy named Jonathan Pine, who is recruited to go on an undercover assignment and infiltrate a group that sells illegal arms.

Simply the Best: The Night Manager is based on the book of the same name written by John le Carré. If you’re a fan of espionage and thrillers, then you’ll certainly want to check this series out. Along with Hiddleston, it also stars Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie, Tom Hollander, and Elizabeth Debicki.

Pine must navigate a mysterious alliance that has formed between a group of arms dealers and an intelligence community. As an operative, he must put his life on the line repeatedly. The reason the series is named “The Night Manager” is because Pine initially begins as a luxury hotel manager. The first episode is set in Egypt during the revolution of 2011 when Pine worked as the night manager at the Nefertiti Hotel in Cairo.
