10. Wallander (2008)

Original Release: November 30, 2008 – June 5, 2016

Ratings: Wallander was remarkably successful and continued for four seasons before coming to an end in 2016.

Critical Acclaim: Critics were quite fond of Wallander. Most of the praise went to Kenneth Branagh and his performance as the series’ main character. The show also received several awards and nominations during its run.

About the Role: One of the great things about Hiddleston’s role in this series is that it led to his eventual casting in Thor. Hiddleston was discovered by Kenneth Branagh, who was thoroughly impressed with his work on the series. He portrayed Detective Magnus Martinsson for the first two seasons.

Simply the Best: Wallander is a British television series that was adapted from the original Swedish series based on the Wallander book series. Branagh plays the main character Kurt Wallander, and Hiddleston’s Martinsson is one of the many detectives that work on his team.

The series is a fairly traditional British crime drama, but the performances and writing elevate the material into something that has remained beloved for many years. You’ll get a taste of what makes Hiddleston, such a charming actor by watching some of his early work.
