3. The Avengers (2012)
Original Release Date: May 4, 2012
Box Office: Marvel movies were already excelling at the box office before the first Avengers film, but this movie blew them all out of the water and proved how truly legendary the MCU would be. It made more than 1.5 billion dollars at the box office, and few movies can claim that feat.
Critical Acclaim: The Avengers is one of the most beloved Marvel films of all time. While all of their movies have been critically beloved, for the most part, The Avengers was one of the first superhero team-ups we’d ever seen and, therefore, one of the most acclaimed.
About the Role: Hiddleston returns to play Loki once again in this movie. This time around, he’s more of a traditional antagonist, although many will argue that it was solely due to being influenced by the Tesseract. Regardless, he’s the key antagonist in this film and gets to have quite a bit of fun with the role.
Simply the Best: What happens when Loki starts working for Thanos, gets an incredibly powerful stone that can alter people’s minds, and decides to unleash havoc on New York City?
Well, it creates a force that cannot be reckoned with by one hero alone. Thus, the Avengers initiative is officially put together for the first time. Even though Loki isn’t part of that iconic scene of the team assembling in NYC, he is the person who caused the madness that brought them together in the first place!
