Best of the 2010s in 2010: Booth and Brennan, “BB,” from Bones

On paper, Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan never should have worked. Booth loved to bend the rules, rocking a “Cocky” belt buckle and wild socks while on duty for the FBI, and Brennan was the epitome of the rigid and uptight stereotype that female characters have a tendency to get stuck with. As The X-Files’ Mulder and Scully taught us, though, love defies logic.

Perfect opposites not only attract but are at their best when they’re together. The difference for BB, of course, is that their relationship was actually allowed to become canon, complete with a marriage and kids. Certain people who shall remain nameless would get hives just from thinking about including that type of content in a show about solving crimes.

In the shipping department, Booth and Brennan kicked off the decade. Much like many of the other eventual couples mentioned in our best of the 2010s listing, we rooted for them from the series’ beginning, which was all the way back in 2005 for Bones. Instead, “The Parts in the Sum of the Whole,” Bones’ 100th episode, revealed that the two people viewers had wanted to get together since they became partners…had actually come this close to doing something about their mutual attraction long before we’d even met them. This revelation just made us ship Booth and Brennan more than ever before, and it set up the messy angst that was to follow.

Consider this not a moment of culmination, as most of the rest of our best of 2010s timeline has been, but a moment of reinvigoration. Unfortunately, it’s also the moment where we say goodbye to the best of the 2010s.

That’s all for this decade and ships! When you think “best of the 2010s” and “ships,” who comes to mind? Let us know in the comments!
