3 comebacks fans could expect for Criminal Minds’ 15th season
Criminal Minds has announced Season 15 will be its final chapter. While the cast has changed ever since the first episode, we could see some characters joining the show for its final run.
Criminal Minds on CBS has had many fans wondering how long they will have to wait before the show is back on the air, but the wait is almost over. The final season will air on Jan. 8, 2020. After a 15-season run, the show will bid farewell to fans in what is sure to be a surprising, yet tearful, final season.
By starting during CBS’s midseason slot, fans could expect anything and everything during this final season. With many characters having been on and off the show for some periods of time, viewers could expect to see some of these making a return for the final season. Here are three possible scenarios fans could expect:
1. Derek Morgan could return to the show
Long-time Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU member Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) could make a surprise comeback. Morgan had been a member of the cast between the pilot episode, which aired on Sept. 22, 2005, and Season 11, Episode 18, on Mar. 23, 2016.

Morgan made a surprise appearance during Season 13, Episode 5 as a special guest, besides returning in a flashback during Season 14, Episode 10. He and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangness) have had a flirtatious relationship during his time on the show. Could viewers expect to see a comeback by Morgan, therefore reuniting with Garcia?
#2 – It’s all about relationships
The fact that the show is known for its aggressive content portrayed in such a realistic way doesn’t mean that it alludes to relational issues as well. Some clear examples are the aforementioned flirtatious relationship between Morgan and Garcia, although they are not the only ones.
Next in line are Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook) and Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). In spite of the fact that JJ is a married mother of two, she doesn’t let her passion for Dr. Reid slow her down. While fans could get some clues as to a possible affair between both throughout the first few seasons, the romance between both became clear towards the end of Season 14.
#3 – Aaron Hotchner could return
Aaron Hotchner “Hotch” (Thomas Gibson) is our last pick as a possible return for the show’s final run. Hotch was a Supervising Special Agent (SSA) for the BAU and had been on the show since the show first aired until Season 12, Episode 2.
Hotch’s sudden dismissal from the show occurred as a result of an altercation with one of the writers while on set. Although, Hotch’s life and personal background as a character were all-too-grim given that his first wife, Haley (Meredith Monroe) was shot to death by the infamous Zodiac Killer.
Season 14 ended with JJ’s confession to Dr. Reid in terms of her love for him. In one month’s time, fans will find out how CBS’ Criminal Minds will delight viewers in order to commemorate its very last season.
