How the Grinch Stole Christmas
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
What’s it about: We’ve all read Dr. Seuss’s classic book from 1957. In 2000, the Grinch became the first Dr. Seuss book to be adapted as a full-length feature. The result was How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jim Carrey stars as the Grinch, an egotistical, mean, and grumpy creature that hates Christmas and everything that comes with it. The Grinch’s views on the holiday go directly against the people of Whoville, who adore and love Christmas.
Six-year-old Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) attempts to bring Christmas spirit to the Grinch by inviting him into town for the holiday. The Grinch accepts, but he’s later humiliated in front of the entire town. Enraged, the Grinch decides to exact his revenge on the people of Whoville by stealing all of Whoville’s presents and decorations. Will the Grinch exact his revenge or will he have a change of heart?
Why you should stream How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The film rests on the spectacular performance from Carrey. The actor truly morphs into the mean-spirited green creature that became a pop-culture icon. It’s not one of your typical romantic Christmas movies, but it has a great message.
