The best-selling single in the entire world happens to have the same name as Bing Crosby’s classic, White Christmas.
What’s it about: Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye star as Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, two war buddies who love to entertain. During the WWII, they perform the song, “White Christmas” in front of their division and their commanding officer, Major General Thomas F. Waverly (Dean Jagger), who is being relieved of command. After the war, Wallace and Davis take their entertainment act on the road and make it big as music producers.
The duo eventually becomes infatuated with sisters, Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy (Vera-Ellen). Wallace and Davis follow the sisters to Columbia Inn in Pine Tree, Vermont, where they learn that their former beloved commanding officer owns the lodge. However, Waverly is in danger of losing the inn so Wallace and Davis must work together to save the lodge.
Why you should stream White Christmas: White Christmas is a solid film, but the real reason to watch is for Crosby’s rendition of, “White Christmas.” Crosby first performed his famous rendition in the early 1940s. The film further popularized the song and “White Christmas” remains the only song that has over 50 million in sales.
