When will 9-1-1 Season 3 return in 2020?
We have a lot of questions for 9-1-1 Season 3, but it’s going to be a while before we get answers. When will the series return in 2020?
There are a lot of questions after the 9-1-1 Season 3 fall finale. The biggest ones surround Michael and his fate, but there are questions about Maddy, Hen and Karen, and even Eddie. So, when are we going to get answers? When will 9-1-1 Season 3 return in 2020?
While many shows entering their winter breaks will be back in January or February at the latest, we’re seeing a longer break for 9-1-1. This isn’t uncommon. It took almost four months for the first responder drama to move return after it took its Season 2 break in November 2018. The show didn’t return until March 2019.
Update: FOX has confirmed that 9-1-1 Season 3 will return on Mar. 16, 2020.

We can expect something similar in the new year. Instead of Athena, Bobby, and others returning to our screens in January, we’re going to see the new spin-off premiere. 9-1-1: Lone Star is set in Texas and will follow the lives of the first responders there. Nobody has mentioned any crossovers, which makes sense since there would be little reason right now for the L.A. first responders to head to Texas. This isn’t like NCIS or CSI.
The spin-off doesn’t have a set number of episodes, but judging by the premiere date, it’s likely 10 to 13 episodes. The first season of the parent show premiered midseason with just 10 episodes, running from Jan. 3, 2018 to Mar. 21, 2018. We could see something similar here, but with a later start date of Jan. 19, 2020.
With that in mind, we’re looking at very late March or the beginning of April for the 118 to return. According to TVLine, showrunner Tim Minear said that the show would see a time jump of about the same length of time it is taking off, and that is about three or four months. So, we could definitely be looking at April 2020 for a return date.
