With the 2010s soon to be in the rearview mirror, we decided to look back at Big Brother seasons of the past decade. Over the next several days, we will look at the most notable breakout player from each season (in our opinion) this decade. This will mean Big Brother 12 to Big Brother 21 with Over the Top and Celebrity versions included.

First up today, we will be examining the breakout star of Big Brother 16. The season saw the introduction of the Battle of The Block twist that lasted from week 1 until week 9. For the Battle of the Block twist, there would be 2 HOHs. Each HOH would name 2 nominees. Then, the nominees would face off against each other in a competition. The winners earned safety for the week and dethroned the HOH that nominated them. This came to be a twist that many fans hated.

There were a couple of interesting players in BB16. However, one player really stood out to us above the rest. That player is Derrick Levasseur.

Big Brother 16’s breakout star: Derrick Levasseur

Derrick is widely considered one of the greatest players in the history of the show. He was never nominated for eviction at any point during the season (except by default when he lost the final HOH Competition). Derrick also controlled the game from start to finish, being responsible for every eviction along the way.

Derrick’s had several impressive feats along the way. They include saving Zach Rance from certain eviction twice, convincing Caleb Reynolds to evict Frankie Grande (who genuinely wanted to take Caleb to the final 3), dragging Victoria Rafaeli all the way to the final 3, and convincing Cody Calafiore to take him to the final 2 over Victoria, who Cody would’ve easily beaten. In the end, Derrick defeated Cody at the final vote 7-2.

You could have reasonably made arguments for Donny Thompson or Zach to get this spot instead. However, since Derrick is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, he gets the nod as our breakout star of BB16.
