How long will Alex Trebek do Jeopardy?
During A Conversation With Alex Trebek, the question about his time on Jeopardy came up. He shared a response with how long he’s going to continue.
Canadian broadcaster, CTV, hosted a special with Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek. A Conversation With…is a chance for Lisa LeFlamme to look back at a legend’s career, as well as look forward at things to come. The question of the host’s future on the quiz show came up.
It was only natural it would come up. The Canadian-American host has been battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. During the summer, he announced that he had to start chemo again, and it is certainly taking its toll on him. Trebek shared that he sometimes walks with a limp or he slurs words, and he knows that his time on the show is limited.

To answer the question about his future on Jeopardy, he didn’t give a definite timeframe. He has a contract for another two years, but he may not see it all the way through due to health reasons. And naturally, the producers of the series are more than likely going to support whatever decision he makes. After all, it’s Trebek who has arguably made this quiz show one to watch for generations.
Trebek shared that he’ll stick with Jeopardy until he feels he doesn’t have the capacity to do it anymore. He doesn’t want to worry about wording questions (well, answers) properly or worry about how his viewers see him. This isn’t about vanity but about leaving the show with a positive legacy.
That could be in two years’ time when his contract comes to an end. However, it could also be in the nearer future depending on the toll chemo takes. He’s in high spirits and has a lot of support around him, so there’s a lot of hope that he will continue to do well and fight against the demon that is cancer.
The Jeopardy host certainly talked about much more, including some of the events he’s witnessed over his years. He also had a chance to explain how it was CBC that gave him his big break, and he certainly hasn’t wasted it. Jeopardy came up again, as he shared why he thinks the quiz show continues: people want to see how smart they are against some of the smartest people in the country.
