Celebrating Brittany Murphy: Looking back at her top five performances
By Mads Lennon
Brittany Murphy was a shining light who left us way too soon. Today marks the tenth year since the actress passed away and we’re celebrating her legacy by looking back at her top five performances.
Ten years ago to the day, Brittany Murphy shockingly passed away at the age of 32. Lizzie Logan from FLOOD Magazine wrote an article yesterday about why Murphy deserves to be remembered and it inspired me to write a little piece of my own about some of my favorite performances from the actress.
We’ve lost a lot of great actors over the years, but Murphy’s is one that has always stuck with me. I remember seeing her in lots of different movies when I was growing up. I adored Clueless, Uptown Girls, and Girl, Interrupted. She always seemed like such a lively spirit. Plus, she just appeared to be sweet, kind, and generous to her fans.
Today we’re celebrating Murphy’s legacy by looking back at five of the late actress’s best performances.

5. Uptown Girls (2003)
Uptown Girls wasn’t necessarily beloved by critics but fans loved it. Many people still consider it one of the best Brittany Murphy movies because she’s just so darn lovable in it.
Plus who doesn’t occasionally find themselves humming “Sheets of Egyptian Cotton” from time to time? Murphy is at her best in Uptown Girls.
She’s sweet and sincere and yet totally willing to embrace a joke. Fans and critics used to lovingly compare Brittany Murphy to Lucille Ball. She has an infectious personality and her on-screen presence and relationship with co-star Dakota Fanning makes this movie a cozy one to watch.
