8. Conan the Barbarian (2011)

Original Release Date: August 19, 2011

Box Office: Unfortunately, Conan the Barbarian was considered a box office bomb. It was a big-budget action movie that producers expected to make a big splash with audiences. It didn’t even wind up making back its $90 million production budget.

Critical Acclaim: Given its box office return, you can probably guess what critics thought of the movie. Most of them were not fans, claiming the film was too stereotypical and redundant. However, several of them also admitted it was a blast to watch even if it wasn’t an overall “good” film.

About the Role: Jason Momoa took on the role of Conan when his career was still relatively low-key. Conan is a classic character from literature and pop culture who has appeared in numerous books, magazines, movies, and TV shows. His take on it is considered strong, even if the movie itself wasn’t great.

Simply the Best: Similar to how critics felt, Conan the Barbarian isn’t the type of movie to knock your socks off with its script or acting, but it’s still tremendous fun to watch. Sometimes all you want in life is a blockbuster film featuring shirtless Jason Momoa running around and facing off against pirates and sorcerers. That’s what you’ll get with this film.
