We got a bunch of cursed objects in Supernatural Season 7, Episode 16, delivering some funny but also scary moments. “Out with the Old” also brought the Leviathan story back, with a reminder that not all monsters want to be evil.

It’s time to break down the episode in a little more detail. Here are my five favorite lines from “Out with the Old.”

I saw Black Swan. Twice. Hot tutu-on-tutu action? Come on, Sam. What’s wrong with you?

Dean knows all about Black Swan. And at this point, he’s most definitely talking about the movie starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. And while he’s his usual self while sharing a reason for watching the movie, it becomes an important line later.

Getting the strong urge to Prince Siegfried myself into oblivion? Yes.

Dean has the urge to put on the slippers. He comments on one of the characters in the ballet production, which makes it clear that he paid plenty of attention to the movie that he watched. Sam is actually impressed in his own little way. I just like the fact that we get the pop culture reference but also a little more about how much Dean soaks in through movies.

Can a dog play poker?

Frank’s question to Dean stands out because we all know that he’s talking about the artwork of the dogs playing poker. Of course, I’d love to know if a dog really could play poker. It’s a shame this line didn’t come up when Dean communicated with the dogs.

However, this is also a fun line, continuing Frank’s personality. I’m just surprised Dean doesn’t get the reference behind the question.

Hey, with enough curse mojo you can turn a freaking pencil into a weapon of mass destruction.

Sam loves to delve deeper into lore and figure out what it means and what it can do. In this episode, he shares what curse mojo can do to just the simplest of things.

There’s a fun, fandom element to this line. It connects back to “It’s a Terrible Life” when Zachariah created the alternate world and a man stabbed himself with a pencil.

Okay, you know what? Enough with the insomnia crap. All right, Pacino? You need to crash. I’ll keep working. You find a motel and get some sleep. Okay?

Dean is worried about his brother. You can tell with this line, but this isn’t the time to talk about why Sam isn’t sleeping. Dean is able to remain focused but concerned, making it clear that he’s going to take over the case from this point.

I love when we get to see the protective side of Dean. You just know that this is going to come up later.
