4. Todd Rundgren’s Utopia — Live At The Chicago Theater (2019)

Todd Rundgren is one of the most forward-thinking music visionaries in the History of Rock. A powerhouse singer, guitarist, songwriter, and music producer, he constantly pushed the boundaries of American rock, producing, both for himself and countless others, a body of work of tremendous quality, with a fair amount of commercial success as well.

He’s also a phenomenal live performer, and Utopia, his flagship project, is comprised of some of the most accomplished musicians in the game. Their concerts are a music theory nerd and audiophile’s dream, and even if Rundgren himself is now five decades deep into his career, you can see the same energy, passion, and commitment of his heyday.

Live at the Chicago Theater is a testament of a brilliant trajectory, a 128-minute long display of classic sounds and golden memories. You can hear beautiful songs like “Freedom Fighters”, “Set Me Free”, “Love is the Answer”, and be enthralled by face-melting instrumentals like “The Ikon” and the epic “Utopia Theme”, one of the greatest rock concert openers we know.

3. The Pretenders With Friends (2019)

If there’s a band from the 1980s that we can consider iconic, with a huge number of catchy songs that helped define the sound of rock-pop, that is undoubtedly The Pretenders, and yet, the band is somewhat underrated these days. But the band, fronted by the awesome Chrissy Hynde, is not only one of the greatest hitmakers of their time, but also still a pretty solid live band, as demonstrated in this modest but wonderful concert that celebrates a long career of well-deserved success.

As the title suggests, The Pretenders With Friends includes some very interesting guests, including Shirley Manson (Garbage), Kings Of Leon, Incubus, and the godfather of punk himself, Iggy Pop. It’s a perfect show for those who want to bring back the memories of a time in which The Pretenders were making the soundtrack to our lives.
