3 wild moments from Lifetime’s Abducted on Air

Abducted on Air follows an ambitious reporter who will do anything to become the lead investigative journalist at her job, including faking a kidnapping.

Lifetime‘s Abducted on Air follows Sasha Bruder, an ambitious and conniving reporter who will do whatever it takes to ascend the ranks at her job. She’s tired of getting the lame stories and is intent on becoming the lead on some of the hardest-hitting breaking news reports. To become beloved by America, she orchestrates her own abduction to win their favor and sympathy.

As you might expect, a movie of this nature has plenty of wild moments between Sasha and her accomplice setting up a staged kidnapping to Sasha framing her own co-worker for the incident. We’re ranking the top three.

3. Sasha frames Alex for her abduction.

After Aidan (her married ex-professor she’s having an affair with, because this is Lifetime) and Sasha expertly convince the masses that she was truly kidnapped by recording the violence on-air, Sasha has to find a fall man. If they can’t pin the abduction on someone, her story will fall away as people grow bored and move on to the next big topic.

Sasha creates a narrative that someone was obsessed with her and began stalking her. She frames her poor, sweet, naive co-worker, Alex. Sasha and Alex once had a one night stand, which makes him the perfect target, even more so after she leaves a little of her blood on his jacket and some sketchy photos of her undressing in her dresser.

Aidan is shocked that Sasha is willing to send an innocent guy to jail so that she can become successful. Aidan begins to realize that she’s a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

2. Sasha tries to murder Aidan.

Sasha starts to become increasingly unhinged when she realizes that someone knows her secret. She begins receiving secret messages and foreboding clues that someone out there is on to her. Sasha starts to think that Aidan’s wife knows what she and her husband cooked up and is planning on blackmailing Sasha or turning her in.

She tries to kill Aidan by shooting him point-blank and intends to finish the job by killing his wife too, if necessary. Luckily for her, Sasha doesn’t make it that far.

1. Diane reveals she was working undercover.

Diane, Sasha’s rival at work, fakes a home invasion at her home so she can go “missing” and truly dive undercover in a surprising twist. The audience is led to believe that Sasha may have had something to do with Diane’s disappearance.

Abducted on Air ends with a surprising twist. Diane reemerges at the end of the movie and reveals that she went deep undercover to learn the truth about Sasha’s madness. We learn that Aidan turned on Sasha and helped Diane. She loaded Sasha’s gun with blanks behind her back so they could work together and extract the truth from Sasha once and for all.
