You Season 3: Breaking down fan theories
Fans of Netflix’s You have been buzzing since Season 2 dropped over the holidays. Here’s a new theory for a potential Season 3.
Spoiler alert: Be warned that the content of this post will discuss major details from You Season 2.
Joe Goldberg. Will Bettelheim. Whatever you want to call him, he’s got his eyes set on another potential victim. The final minutes on You Season 2 showed Joe moving into a new home with his pregnant girlfriend, Love Quinn. But, there’s a woman on the other side of their fence that Joe is already keeping tabs on.
It should be noted that You Season 3 has yet to be officially announced by Netflix, but based on the cliffhanger we were left with, as well as the positive reception both seasons received, it’s all but confirmed that Netflix will renew the series for at least ten more episodes.
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
With that said, I’m not sure how much longer the series can keep going without feeling repetitive given Joe’s pattern of love leading to murder. So let’s say we do get one more season with Joe. How could his run as a serial killer end?
Did Joe find his mother?
Fans have been battling it out on social media as to who they think the new woman is. Many believe she’s Joe’s mother, who we met in several flashbacks throughout Season 2. Because of Joe’s history with being cheated on, fans refuse to believe he would cheat on Love, who is supposedly carrying his child. Though, it’s worth reminding everyone that Joe did cheat on Karen Minty by hooking up with Beck again toward the end of Season 1.
While it isn’t out of the realm of possibility for the mystery woman to be Joe’s mother, I don’t think that’s who it will be. In fact, I suspect it’ll be a returning character from Season 1 who spells the end for Joe Goldberg.
In case it’s been a while since viewing Season 1, here’s a quick recap to catch you up to speed:
Will Claudia and Paco return?
There are several people who have the potential to bring Joe down. Peach Sallinger’s P.I., Karen Minty, the real Will Bettelheim, Officer David Fincher (who killed Forty), or perhaps even Paco. Not only did Paco witness Joe murder his mother’s abusive ex-boyfriend, but he also saw Beck trapped behind a locked door leading to the bookstore’s basement before she was killed.
Paco learned a lot more from Joe than just literature – how to hide things in the bathroom ceiling, self-defense, how to clean blood off the floor, and basically how to a frame a murder on someone else. He may be young, but Paco seems wise beyond his years.
You may recall that Paco and his mother moved to California at the end of Season 1. And guess where Joe currently resides? Claudia and Paco may be the reason why Joe fled to California, of all places, when Candace chased him out of New York. Perhaps the Quinn family got in Joe’s way before he could track down his former neighbors.
There’s no doubt Joe could find out the exact house Claudia and Paco now reside in. It’s hard to say why exactly Joe could be targeting Claudia, if for any malicious reason, but Paco could easily smarten up to the fact that Joe isn’t a good guy, especially if he happened to read Beck’s book and piece together what really happened to her.
How ironic would it be if Paco used Joe’s own tools against him to put a stop to his stalking and murdering ways? While it can be thrilling to root for Joe at times, it may be that much more enjoyable to root for his demise at the hands of someone like Paco in You Season 3.
What do you think will go down if Netflix renews You for Season 3? Could the mystery woman possibly be someone we’ve already met? Sound off below!
