Christian Bale would make a great antagonist in Thor: Love and Thunder
Rumors are swirling that Christian Bale is in talks to join the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. Here’s why he should play Thor’s rival in the film.
Christian Bale is no stranger to comic book superhero blockbusters, but he’s never appeared in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film before. That may be something Bale can check off his bucket list soon as Collider is reporting the former Dark Knight star could join Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman in the Taika Waititi-directed Thor: Love and Thunder.
Despite not having confirmation that Bale will take part in the fourth Thor film, fans are having fun speculating what his role could be. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the possibilities seem endless for new characters to be introduced in the next phase of films and series.

When looking at who could be utilized from the realm of the comic book world, names being thrown around include Beta Ray Bill, Adam Warlock, Hercules, and even Galactus. Some of these options would allow Bale to simply lend his voice acting talents and not have to be involved much on set (i.e. Bradley Cooper as Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy).
Whichever route is chosen for Bale’s potential character, there’s a good chance he will be linked to Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who is expected to be the Mjolnir-yielding Goddess of Thunder. Could Thor have to compete against Bale’s character to win back Jane’s love? There’s a good possibility considering the film’s title.
Christian Bale would be better suited as the film’s antagonist rather than Thor’s ally for a number of reasons. He’s proven through numerous roles over the years that he can play either side of the coin, yet there’s no questioning he may be favored in the villainous position. Additionally, Thor likely has enough allies this time with Valkyrie and Korg returning. The jury’s still out as to where Jane Foster will fall after all these years.
MCU fans are already salivating at the idea of Hemsworth versus Bale, so let’s hope our questions turn into answers as production for Love and Thunder begins later this year ahead of its late 2021 release.
