Is the Sex Education Season 2 trailer teasing Otis and Maeve?

Netflix released the trailer for Sex Education Season 2, and boy do we have questions about Otis and Maeve.

Sex Education Season 2 premieres on Jan. 17 and Netflix’s trailer for the new episodes is full of interesting tidbits. Gillian Anderson’s Dr. Jean Milburn is set to speak at her son Otis’ school. And that’s not even the most awkward situation she and Otis will find themselves in, seeing as how it looks like she and Jakob are going to be caught in the act by both of their kids!

Which leads us to our biggest question about Sex Education Season 2: Are Otis and Ola even going to last? It looks like, if Maeve has anything to say about it, they absolutely won’t.

More from Netflix

When we last saw Maeve, she had finally broken up with her boyfriend and was headed to see Otis. That did not end well, as she showed up at his place just in time to catch him having a sweet moment with Ola.

After an entire season of all sorts of angsty, assumedly-unrequited crushing going on between Otis and his fellow school clinic leader, he was trying to move on. So, Maeve’s timing was about as bad as it could get.

What a mess. No wonder the trailer has “love is messy” in big, bold letters across the screen.

This absolutely wouldn’t have been the case in the series’ first season, but at this point, Maeve might actually be the less complicated choice for Otis. It’s kind of weird having your mom dating your girlfriend’s dad, after all.

But after all the missed connections, and his now rapidly-maturing relationship with Ola, does Otis even have feelings for Maeve anymore? Can they just go away, just like that? And in spite of possibly being the “easy” choice right now, is Maeve the right choice? Or is it Ola?

Will Sex Education Season 2 even give us any closure on this issue, or will the series continue to milk the drama for as long as possible? I, for one, am happy to suffer in angst for as long as the story stays interesting. But not everyone who turns to a Netflix series for a binge is.

On top of the Otis/Maeve/Ola triangle, Sex Education Season 2 appears to have at least one more tangled web of romance in store for viewers. Rather than give everything away, though, we just suggest you watch the trailer above and get ready for what looks to be a wild ride.

Oh, and while we’re at it? Just for the record? Gillian Anderson can come talk to us about “S-E-X” and tell us how not broken we are any day. That probably goes without saying, though.

Next. If you watch only one new show, make sure it’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.. dark
