The Resident, NCIS, mixed-ish, and Emergence were among the shows returning on Jan. 7. There were also debuts. Here are the TV ratings for the night.

Most networks were back to normal on Jan. 7, bringing back the likes of NCISThe Residentmixed-ish, and much more. There were also some new shows debuting, including FBI: Most Wanted and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Here’s a look at the Tuesday TV ratings to see how everything performed.

It was a strong night for ABC for the most part. Instead of bringing The Conners from its break, the network opted for a special. Jepoardy! The Greatest of All Time aired, bringing in the highest ratings for the entire night. 14.37 million people tuned in and it gained a 2.4 demo rating, and that’s not surprising considering how much fans love Alex Trebek.

The great results leaked into the comedies that would follow. mixed-ish returned from its winter break with a 103% increase in the demo to 1.1 (highest demo for a scripted series) and a 61% increase in the audience to 4.78 million. black-ish also returned up by 33% in the demo and 6% in the total audience. I doubt the figures will hold next week unless ABC realizes that specials before the comedies are good.

Emergence didn’t see the same positive results. While the demo was up 19% from the winter finale, the demo was down by 17%, at the lowest audience of the entire night.

Meanwhile, NCIS and The Resident returned down, but not by an alarming amount. The ABC special would certainly have played to that. However, for The Resident, it continues to prove the timeslot is problematic, and it may be time to wrap up the annoying Red Rock storyline.

FBI returned up, which isn’t all that surprising. Many wanted to find out whether Kristen would live or die. The good results for CBS led into FBI: Most Wanted, which debuted well with 7.19 million viewers and 0.8 in the demo. These figures are higher than NCIS: New Orleans, which held that timeslot in the fall. We’ll have to see how the show fares over the next few weeks to see if it will be renewed.

The most disappointing return would have been for FOX, with Gordan Ramsey’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back Season 3 debuting to a 43% drop in the demo and 38% drop in the audience compared to the Season 2 premiere. The ratings throughout Season 2 dropped most weeks, but even this Season 3 premiere was down from the Season 2 finale. This could be the end of the restaurant-changing series.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist also debuted relatively low. It pulled in 2.69 million viewers and a 0.6 demo rating. Like FBI: Most Wanted, we’ll need to wait to see how the show performs in the coming weeks to see if NBC will renew or cancel it.
