Looking for his next cause, Jonah tackles gender equality and ends up spearheading a men’s rights movement in a topical Superstore.

What do you do when your union falls apart and you have no cause to throw yourself into? If you’re Jonah, you find yourself a new cause. Superstore hands him the opportunity when Cloud 9’s new parent company starts rolling out a clothing line for girls bearing sexist messaging. Jonah’s fight for gender equality inadvertently mobilizes an embarrassing group of men’s rights activists within the store. No one said creating change would be easy.

Elsewhere in the store, Amy’s attempt to contact the new parent company with the employees’ concerns goes unanswered, while Sandra continues to struggle with Carol and her threatening behavior. In order to disinvite Carol from her wedding, Sandra enlists Garrett and Dina’s help ripping off the bandage, but it’s still easier said than done. Let’s recap the latest episode of Superstore with the five best jokes from “Lady Boss.”

1. “I walked in on her in the bathroom the other day, and she was practicing smiling.”

Ever since Carol tried to kidnap Sandra while wedding planning, the writing has most definitely been on the wall. While talking with Garrett about wedding invitations, Carol overhears the conversation and realizes she hasn’t gotten her chance to RSVP. Obviously, Carol won’t be receiving an invite in the mail because she’s bonkers and out for Sandra’s blood. But Sandra has to muster the courage to break that news to Carol to make it stick.

2.”You want to give mannequins jobs? Never forget how fun you are, Jonah.”

As Cheyenne and Mateo style mannequins with the store’s new clothing line for young girls, Jonah pops by. To his dismay, the gendered pink clothing features sexist phrases like “lady boss.” He suggests that they give the mannequins computers and other endearing props to balance out the problematic messaging. Left to his own device, Jonah tries to make the best of a bad situation with his own tweaks, but he takes the gender equality mission a step further. Perhaps too far.

3. “He just saw Fight Club, so he’s having a very dated midlife crisis.”

Jonah opts to take down the mannequin display and the shirts altogether. Ever the clueless oaf, Marcus believe Jonah has spearheaded this cause to champion men, who — according to Marcus and his fellow misinformed complainers — are under attack. Superstore supports men’s rights… men’s right to shut the hell up! But first, Jonah indulges Marcus’ mission on the grounds of gender equality, which leads to a mind-numbing meeting about feminism.

4. “It’s not a wig. Even though we all want it to be a wig, that’s pure Carol.”

Feminist icon Dina voices a lot of questionable opinions, but her opinions on Carol’s hair aren’t questionable at all. When Garrett can’t succeed at telling Carol she isn’t invited to Sandra’s wedding, he hands over the task to Dina. Naturally, she revels in delivering bad news and even muses that she should have been a doctor. Once again, Carol denies that she isn’t invited and continues to gaslight Sandra into making her co-maid of honor. This wedding just got good.

5. “All men have left is the NFL and the country.”

After the meeting about feminism led to no revelations for anyone but Cheyenne, Marcus leads a protest. Why? Because Amy took a phone call from the new owners. Fearing that the new female CEO and women in general will push them out of their jobs, the men’s rights movement goes on strike with a cookout in the back of the store. The stalemate will only end when Glenn agrees to accept the floor supervisor position, ending the story on an ultimately unsatisfying note.
