As 2020 begins, a new year filled with great comedy films awaits. Let’s explore some of the most anticipated comedy films of the year.

The year 2020 is officially here! The number of anticipated movies and television shows is at an all-time high. With sequels, the superhero genre, and reboots, there is no shortage of great content to come this year.

As we look forward to the year in cinema, not many comedy films have been as publicized as, say, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, or James Bond: No Time To Die. This makes complete sense as all these types of films are quite popular, but what about die-hard comedy fans waiting for their favorite type of film, too?

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure about which highly anticipated comedy films were going to release in 2020 either. After all, 2019 released its fair share, but none that were all that publicized.

As something to note, here are five comedy films to look forward to in 2020:

Impractical Jokers: The Movie (February 21)

Based on the hit reality series Impractical Jokers, the movie edition will follow the Tenderloins on a bigger quest. After meeting legendary singer Paula Abdul, the four Jokers, James Murray, Brian Quinn, Sal Vulcano, and Joe Gatto Jr. are invited to a party in South Beach.

Seems like a great time, but the problem is the Tenderloins only get three entrance tickets for the bash, leaving one man out. What are the friends to do?

To determine who will NOT be attending the party, the Jokers decide it by the only way they know how: participate in epic, hilarious hidden camera challenges across the country. It’s a laugh-fest all the way to the finish to see who’s missing out on the fun in Miami!

My Spy (March 13)

JJ Cena (Dave Bautista) is a tough-as-nails CIA agent who excels at his job. However, despite all his strength and talent, Cena is identified by the nine-year-old daughter of a family he’s been monitoring. Facing an unlikely source for his demise, JJ opts to grant nine-year-old Sophie’s (Chloe Coleman) wish of learning about the world of spydom.

Both parties learn from each other and get caught up in hilarious encounters, but also unearth a whole other side to each other. Cena may just have a soft spot under his hard shell and Sophie may just have a case to be the coolest kid in school.

The Lovebirds (April 3)

The Lovebirds is a film that features a similar premise to the hit Netflix film Murder Mystery, which released in 2019. In this movie, a couple named Eric (Kumail Nanjiani) and Julie (Issa Rae) become entangled in a murder mystery by accident, which leads to hysterical twists and turns. This film will also star Anna Camp, Moses Storm, and Paul Sparks.
