Chuck gave Sam a peek into a dire future if the Winchesters were successful in locking God away. Was Chuck telling the truth in the latest Supernatural?

Supernatural fans were treated to a pretty intense episode last week. Sam and Castiel managed to get what they needed from Purgatory in order to trap Chuck like he had done to the Darkness. But in that time, Chuck had a one-on-one with Sam and allowed him to see a future of what would happen if the brothers succeeded.

It was a bleak. One that was laden with monsters overrunning the world and the people who Sam and Dean love most dying. It ended with Sam and Dean turned into monsters. No wants the story to end like that. Not even Chuck.

Sam believed the vision and didn’t go through with the plan, which would have shut away Chuck for good. Instead Chuck got to escape to wreak havoc on the brothers and Castiel for another day. The big question is: Were the visions true?

More from Supernatural

That’s a little murky. I’ll take a page from Star Wars where I say, I believe it was true ‘from a certain point of view.’

It’s not the first time we have seen the future or premonitions on Supernatural. Sam was supposed to allowed Lucifer to take him over or Dean needed to go in the box to stop Michael. Choices were made that stopped those futures. They aways found another way.

Also Death has a whole library of how people’s lives end, but none of them for finite because of free will. Humans’ futures are so tough to determine because of the countless decisions they have to make in just one day.

So, in one sense if God was locked away, the future Sam saw could certainly happen. Monsters could overrun the world, which would mean that the good people fighting that fight would all eventually lose.

However, it’s doesn’t mean it will happen because there are still other decisions, they would have to make in order to for these futures to become realities.

Obviously, Chuck doesn’t want to be locked away so he pulled out all the stops to keep that from happening. Perhaps what he doesn’t realize is that by changing the future, he also gave Sam, Dean and Castiel a loophole to change everything, and find another way.
