V.C. Andrew’s Ruby Landry series, Jeffrey Epstein doc, and more coming to Lifetime in 2020

Lifetime is producing a new Jeffrey Epstein documentary and the V.C. Andrews’ Ruby Landry series this year, find out what else is scheduled for 2020.

Last year, Lifetime had tremendous success with its devastating Surviving R. Kelly docuseries and soapy V.C. Andrews’ Casteel Family saga. Expect more of the same in 2020 as the network unveils over 100 new original titles.

For starters, they have officially ordered a four-hour documentary called Surviving Jeffrey Epstein, which will air later this year as part of the network’s Stop Violence Against Women initiative. They’ve also ordered more true crime content for all the true crime fans out there and a new series of films from V.C. Andrews’s Ruby Landry saga.

True crime

Along with the Epstein series, Lifetime has also ordered six more Smart Justice specials with Elizabeth Smart to serve as companion spaces to their Ripped from the Headlines features. Speaking of, the network also greenlit a new true crime feature titled I Was Lorena Bobbit.

Bobbit has become the stuff of legends over the years after she castrated her husband in the early 1990s. She suffered years of abuse by his hand before she finally retaliated. Bobbitt will serve as an executive producer for the movie as she tells her story for the first time.

V.C. Andrews’ Ruby Landry series

The network will also continue producing more V.C. Andrews’ content, which isn’t surprising considering how well the Casteel Family films performed. They’ve ordered five films adapting the Ruby Landry novels.

If you’re unfamiliar, this new saga follows Ruby Landry, a young woman who falls in love with her high school sweetheart, Paul Tate, but is haunted by the death of her mother and a father she never knew.

Slowly, dark family secrets are revealed as Paul’s family bans him from seeing Ruby. On top of all this, Ruby’s Grandmère dies and Ruby is forced to run away from the home she has always known in the New Orleans bayou. She attempts to find her estranged father, one of the richest men in the city.

Along with Ruby Landry, the other film titles are as follows: Pearl in the Mist, All That Glitters, Hidden Jewel and Tarnished Gold.

The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel

Plus, don’t miss out on The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, the movie will officially premiere on April 11 at 8 p.m. ET. The film tells the story of the top-performing all-female gospel group of all time and hails from executive producers Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, and Missy Elliott.
