Amy faces favoritism accusations while hiring a new assistant, and Sandra defuses a feud between Dina and Glenn in a season-best Superstore.

Sooner or later, Amy was poised to face favoritism allegations. Not just because of her close relationships with a handful of Cloud 9 employees, but because of her relationship with Jonah. While things have been smooth sailing for the most part, Superstore finally takes Amy to task when she first excuses Jonah from the schedule for a day off, then hires Mateo as her new assistant without giving any other employee a shot for the job. You have some explaining to do, Amy.

Elsewhere in the store, chaos abounds when Dina and Glenn butt heads over their newly shared leadership roles. Glenn received a bump up to floor supervisor, giving him more authority. But his authority doesn’t sit well with Dina, and it’s Sandra who catches the brunt of their power struggle. Also, Jonah causes even more issues when he tries to prove to Garrett that they’re still close friends outside of work and gives Garrett a huge headache he wasn’t expecting.

Let’s recap the latest episode of Superstore with the five best jokes from “Favoritism.”

1. “So, I guess we’re all just pretending Denis Leary doesn’t exist, that’s fine.”

In true Cloud 9 fashion, the morning meeting devolves into a discussion about celebrity butts before delving into the scheduling issue that kicks off the episode. (Sorry, Denis Leary. Dina tried!) Amy announces she’s taking Jonah off of the schedule the next day so he can attend Raise the Wage, but she’s quickly accused of favoritism by the fellow employees. They make enough noise to force her hand in making Jonah find someone to cover his shift. Easier said than done now.

2. “All you need to ask Glenn is how a man makes it to 60 without hitting puberty.”

Dina catches Sandra setting up a new Zephra tech display, but she notices that the tablets, phones, and other gadgets aren’t locked down. After demonstrating how easily customers could shoplift the expensive items, Sandra covers her tracks and says she was following new floor supervisor Glenn’s order. Of course, Dina believes she ranks higher than Glenn (who knows who outranks who?) and instructs Sandra to take the display down. Thus begins the feud.

3. “I’m like a hatchback. You can always cram more in me.”

Luckily, Jonah strikes up a deal with Garrett to cover the controversial shift in exchange for Jonah covering Garrett’s shift when he has a “thing” with his friends. Being Jonah, he becomes insecure that he wasn’t invited to the “thing” and doesn’t respond well to Garrett’s explanation that he likes to keep his friends separate. Jonah decides to take Garrett out for the lunch to prove they can still hang like they used to. As if that wasn’t weird enough, Jonah invites Garrett’s friend Randy and inadvertently tells an incriminating story about Garrett mocking Randy’s girlfriend. Oh, Jonah…

4. “What, did he take the Limitless pill?”

When Mateo presents Amy with the idea of becoming her new assistant because he can’t stand working for Dan in the vision center anymore, Amy accepts. She talks Dan into working with them with an employee trade off to keep it under wraps, but when Marcus, Justine, and a few select others find out, Amy’s slapped with favoritism accusations again. To appease them, she agrees to let everyone interview for the position. Unfortunately, Marcus does much better than Mateo at the tasks. But Amy levels with him about Mateo’s situation, and he secedes the position for a desk in the warehouse.

5. “You have diabetes! You’re not even in control of your glucose.”

When Glenn finds out Dina told Sandra to take down the Zephra display, he yells at her in an uncharacteristic rage to put it back up. Later, Sandra finds Glenn and Dina in the backroom cage where they house the expensive products. Tired of their fighting (she was losing hair!), Sandra locks them in the cage until they settle their issues. Naturally, a power struggle breaks out, but they pretend to have patched up their problems when Sandra returns to release them. But she leaves them locked up all night with nothing but granola bars for dinner and Glenn’s terrible harmonica skills.
