Harley Quinn is returning to the big screen, and she’s got backup. Birds of Prey is now playing in theaters.

Following the release of Suicide Squad in 2016, Harley Quinn fans clamored for Margot Robbie to be granted a chance to shine even brighter in her own film. As the years passed, DC comic book readers were pleased to learn Harley’s “solo” film would come in the form of Birds of Prey, an adventure that will include Harley’s iconic allies.

The Birds of Prey film will follow Quinn as she navigates the single life after a dramatic break-up with The Joker, but that’s not all. Along the way, she discovers Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) has his sights set on her. Black Mask is a Gotham City crime lord who has had plenty of encounters with Batman in the comic universe. Interestingly enough, he was referenced in the 2017 Justice League film by way of a billboard.

While figuring out what Black Mask is up to, Quinn will come across Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), who are also looking for emancipation in Gotham. The powerful ladies will band together to save Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) after all being targeted for a multitude of reasons. Expect a myriad of explosions, flying bullets, and wicked head-butts from the Cupid of Crime and her newfound accomplices.

Many were concerned that this sequel would be too much like its predecessor based on the vibrant color scheme and cinematic vibes from the trailer, but some early reviewers have teased that Birds of Prey is nothing like Suicide Squad as far as the poor storyline goes. To draw further comparisons, Suicide Squad had a $175 million budget, while Harley Quinn’s pic is slightly cheaper at $97.1 million. Birds of Prey sits at a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes going into the official release date.
