George Lucas is coming back to executive produce and write the Cassian Andor series for Disney’s streaming service.

Fans were shocked when they learned George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, was coming back to executive produce and, on top of that, write a new series for Disney Plus. His next venture with the franchise is going to be the Cassian Andor series, according to The Illuminerdi.

Lucas returning to his legacy IP is a pretty big deal. Following the prequel set of movies receiving mixed reviews, he mostly stepped away from writing the franchise, leaving it to other crew members. This was especially true after he sold the rights off to Disney who made quick work to revive it.

All in all, while he has done work for specific entries of the franchise, it’s been over a decade since he wrote for it, the last time being the Revenge of the Sith.

The Cassian Andor series is going to feature Diego Luna as the main protagonist. It will take the viewer through the origins of the character, all the while also with K2SO. Andor first appeared back in 2016’s Rogue One.

It’s hardly been a secret that Disney is infatuated with improving Disney Plus, albeit mostly by adding new content, not fixing episode list issues or any of that. They launched with a myriad of shows from across its life, even ones created specifically for it, but one of its main drivers was the Jon Favreau-led Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian.

It sparked new life to the franchise and made people – even those who disliked or hated the recent three movies – hope that it could be brought back. Some even felt it was more “Star Wars” than the actual movies.
