Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might be directed by Sam Raimi
Filmmaker Sam Raimi is in the talks to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki‘s lead writer may be penning its script.
The famed director, producer, and actor, Sam Raimi, is in talks to bring his skills to the table as Marvel hypes up the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As reported by THR, he would be replacing its original director, Scott Derrickson, and taking on the very same tasks as expected. Derrickson helmed the original, award-winning 2016 movie. The reason behind him leaving was chalked to “creative differences,” but Marvel didn’t elaborate.
On top of Raimi’s inclusion, it appears Marvel also enlisted the help of Loki‘s lead writer, Michael Waldron, to pen the script. Aside from working with Disney on one of its three in-development Disney+ originals, he’s also been credited as a producer of Rick and Morty. That said, it seems a bit late for a new writer, especially with how intense the original Doctor Strange was, they can’t really go below that quality.

The original Doctor Strange hit theaters in 2016 and blew fans away, leading to them earning well over what they sunk into the film’s $165 million budget. In the end, they topped off at over $677 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Raimi is far from a stranger when it comes to Marvel projects. He has worked with Disney’s subsidiary most notably by directing the Spider-Man trilogy, leaving his Spidey-related mark from 2002 to 2007.
The director isn’t just known for his 2002-2007 run as the director of the web-slinger. He has done some other notable productions, including The Grudge, Evil Dead, and Ash vs. Evil Dead. He’s also still seemingly connected to the as-of-now-at-a-standstill film adaptation of The Last of Us.
Loki is one of the three new series planned out by Disney to bolster its quickly growing streaming service, which has since garnered over 25 million subscribers. With Loki being such a beloved character, solely because of the actor, it’s no wonder Disney decided to make a series all about him. The series is set to shoot later this month.
Disney’s other series planned are WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is going to be hitting theaters May 7, 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if the date changes with this new writer in place.
