To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You charms viewers all over again
By Rishi Patel
The sequel to the popular Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before takes us on a rollercoaster ride further into the lives of Lara-Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky.
If you fell for Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky’s (Noah Centineo) love story once, you’ll certainly fall for it again in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. The sequel to the acclaimed Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before afforded us a glimpse into the lives of the famous fictional couple as an “official” item.
I mean, life was now magnificent and dream-like for Lara Jean and Peter, they were the “perfect couple,” madly in love, super cute together, the world was all sunny, and they proclaimed their love through sending a paper lantern into the world. Most of all, putting aside their fairytale romance and the exchange of love poems, sweets, and necklaces, the couple makes a huge promise to not break the other’s heart.
As fans have come to know though, this is Lara Jean’s life, and things can’t possibly stay this uncomplicated, right? That’s correct, and the teen receives a response to one of her love letters sent out in the previous film, this time from the good-natured John Ambrose McLaren (Jordan Fisher). And to make things a bit more interesting, it just so happens both John and Lara Jean begin to volunteer at the same place, Belleview.
Of course, their first meeting happened with the sometimes clumsy teen falling to the ground and laying on her back as John ambles back into her life. It was a similar situation to when Lara Jean fell on the track and laid on her back as Peter walked into her life. Remember that?

Even the seemingly perfect romance could have pores as the main protagonist must now deal with a potential love triangle. It’s hard to deny the possible chemistry as Lara Jean and John reminisce about their middle school lives and his love for her peanut butter chocolate cupcakes back in the day.
This Netflix teen film shows the challenges that await as adulthood looms, and Lara Jean grows worrisome that she does not know how to be that “perfect” girlfriend for Peter or that he has already experienced the ins-and-outs of a relationship with his ex Jen (Emilija Baranac).
On top of that, Lara Jean finds it hard to disclose her relationship to John, thus escalating tensions between Peter and John when they all meet up. Instead of faking a relationship this time, she must figure out how to make a real one work.
Fans of this film series see Lara Jean and Peter’s first hurdles in their relationship after the honeymoon stage naturally disappears. A domino effect leads to secrets being spilled, past drama being brought to light, and the first true crossroads in this relationship, ultimately threatening to shatter their promise of not being heartbroken.
If anything, the stressed teen must face a huge decision in her young life, which is choose between Peter and John and who she feels is the right guy for her. Just based on the relationship with Peter, Lara Jean learns even the most perfect looking romance has its obstacles, and fairytales may soon turn to reality. But that doesn’t mean reality can’t be like a fairytale, either.
This film depicts the responsibility that comes with adulthood in a stellar way, and forces Lara Jean to follow her heart because this is the time in life when big decisions are usually made. She knows deep down who she wants to be with, and no matter the times, she trusts her real knight in shining armor will show up for her under a snowy night (P.S. he does).
How will Lara Jean’s story continue? Well, we won’t know until the next installment, which has an unspecified release date. It is called To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean though. We can only hope the wait is not too long, but let’s also hope there is nothing to do with any potential heartbreaking in Film 3.
