Supergirl is quickly approaching the huge milestone of 100 episodes and they have teased the return of some old familiar faces. Among those is Chris Wood who will officially be returning as Mon-El for the 100th episode.

Supergirl fans and shippers get ready because a huge fan favorite is making a return to the series for its 100th episode! That’s right; fresh off his return to Legacies Chris Wood will be returning as Mon-El, the former Prince of Daxam, and current Legionnaire, and TVLine has the first look.

Chris Wood departed the show at the end of Season 3 along with longtime cast member Jeremy Jordan (who also recently made his return and will feature in the 100th episode). Winn and Mon-El left to the future as members of the Legion of Superheroes, so how and why are they back?

More from CW

Winn returned from the future in a Legion ship during the previous episode of Supergirl to defeat his doppelgänger who went by Toyman and wanted to follow after his father’s evil legacy. The heroes seemingly defeated Toyman, or so they thought, but Toyman had a backup plan and we saw him appear on a screen at the end of the episode. This likely explains why Winn is still sticking around for another one to two episodes and I have to say it’s so good to see him back.

Details are scarce on Mon-El’s return but the summary of Supergirl’s 100th episode tells us that Mxy is making a return. Kara gets the chance to go back in time to tell Lena the truth about her secret before Lex does. Thus, it will give Kara a chance to change history and gives the show a chance to reflect on the past few seasons that have led up to this episode.

So how does Mon-El fit into this? Well, there’s a few options. Perhaps if Kara tells Lena her secret sooner it causes such a dramatic shift in events that Mon-El doesn’t need to return to the future and stays with the Super Friends. Perhaps things have gone so badly in the alternate reality that Mon-El did leave but needs to return to help fix things. Or perhaps it will just be a nice nod to the fans and he will appear at the end to pick up Winn and take him back to the future.

Either way, he was a huge part of Supergirl and made a big impact on Kara’s life. It will be nice to see him back to celebrate the 100th episode. Chris Wood himself excitedly shared the news on twitter where you can also find the first look at his return.

The pictures rule out his return being solely flashbacks as it appears that Mon-El is in the Tower with the Super Friends and we see Kelly there too, who made her appearance after Mon-El’s departure.

When previously asked whether he would return to the show by TV Guide, Wood tried to play coy and said the following:

"I was in Vancouver during the hundredth episode. And I went to the party. And that’s as much as I can say."

Well, as Wood himself said: the cat’s outta the spandex now! His return is official and I couldn’t be happier. For someone who played such a big role on the show, it wouldn’t feel right having the 100th episode without him.

This also marks the first time Wood returns to The CW drama since his marriage to Melissa Benoist so it will be fun to see the newlyweds share the screen together again. Also, I know Kara had to move on and go on with her life once he left but I can’t help feeling there might be some lingering feelings between Kara and Mon-El still? I’ll leave that for the Karamel fans to debate.

Wood won’t be the only face to return for the milestone episode as TVLine also confirmed that Odette Annable will be returning as Sam Arias and Sam Witwer will be returning as Ben Lockwood. As for the rest, we’ll have to wait and see!
